Do I believe this when God says, “Test Me Now!” ?

When God says, “Test Me Now” can you really trust Him?

A question that haunts us every day of our life in our modern day and society is the thought, Who can we trust? What can we trust? Is anyone reliable or are we so narcissistic that everyone is just looking out for themselves, we better cover our backs and look after our own selves and our own needs.

It is to these questions and even into this type of an environment, that God is speaking in the Book of Malachi chapter 3: 10. He says, “Bring ALL the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the Test! …”

These are powerful words if they are true! That is why I phrased the title of this thought, “When God says, “Test me now/ Prove me now”, can you really trust Him?”

I have to aver from my own personal experience that, I believe that we can trust God, and that His Word is reliable and He can be trusted and He is true!

At a very young age, my parents shared with us the concept of tithing, and I remember them encouraging me to give ten percent of whatever we got as money gifts for our birthdays, or at Christmas time. This definitely was not a lot of money, and this did not fall into the category of my having to prove God, as a dependent child. But this was a concept a principle, which was been instilled in my life, that was going to be tested and proved, later in my life as a young adult and beyond. The principle was to put “God First” by giving Him my tithe First, before I think of paying my bills!

Definitely it was a test for myself, as I left home to live on my own and be employed and have to take care of my own finances. I look back and I see that there was not the faintest idea that I was testing or really putting the words of this verse to the test.

My first recollection of putting this verse to the test came, a few days before my first Christmas in the United States. As a Bible College student finances were really tight and I really only had ten dollars to my name, which I was to use to go to buy a bus ticket to go to the home of a missionary family that I knew. They had invited me to come and spend the Christmas holidays with them.

It was the weekend before Christmas, the Bible school had been dismissed for the Christmas holidays, and I was planning to go and take a bus to the home of the missionary family after the Sunday service. But that weekend was going to change my whole life.

As I was first in the Saturday night Prayer Meeting (a unique event in itself), then Sunday School, then in the main service, God was impressing on my heart to give five dollars in the offering. This was fifty percent of what I owned and would deprive me of the ability to buy a bus ticket, which would cost me $7.50. Yes, $2.50 short! It was as if the Lord was insistent and asking me to trust Him and prove Him. He gave me five opportunities that morning to help me. (A long story short!) I finally said, “Yes”, kicking and screaming, and gave my five dollars!

But, by that evening, God had multiplied that five dollars to thirty-five, plus a ride to my missionary friend’s home in the car of another missionary! Maybe total value of the returns of that day to about forty-five dollars! Whatever percentage that works out to!!

God proved Himself that day, and “… He opened the windows of Heaven and poured out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in.” Yes, this blessing was too much to contain in my heart to take it in, that I share it with you! The overflow!

I say it changed my life, because since then I have been confident in that God wants to prove Himself strong and faithful to His people, who will trust Him to keep His Word! I could fill a whole book with the many incidents in my life that God has proved Himself faithful to me!

I want to share a message preached by the Senior Pastor of Eagle Brook Church this past week, which shows that the experience I had in 1969, is still relevant and true in November 2015, and can be proved by anyone today!

Enjoy this message and the true life incident of someone from our church!

I would encourage you to, “Test God now and Prove Him …”! He can be trusted!
