2 Corinthians 1:8-11 The Message (MSG)
8-11” We don’t want you in the dark, friends, about how hard it was when all this came down on us in Asia province. It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it. We felt like we’d been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally—not a bad idea since he’s the God who raises the dead! And he did it, rescued us from certain doom. And he’ll do it again, rescuing us as many times as we need rescuing. You and your prayers are part of the rescue operation—I don’t want you in the dark about that either. I can see your faces even now, lifted in praise for God’s deliverance of us, a rescue in which your prayers played such a crucial part.”
What a testimony about praying for others! Our prayers do matter in the success of reaching out to people with the Story of God’s love. Paul was a missionary who has his travels recorded in the Book of Acts in the Bible. He and his coworkers suffered extreme situations and adversities when telling the Gospel message in the towns and cities they visited. He states that the prayers of the Corinthians were a vital part in the success of Paul and his helpers as they travelled on their missionary journeys.
For several years recently I have prayed for the countries in Africa. I pray asking God for openness in the hearts of people who live there. I pray for the African Christians to feel the urgency and passion to reach out to others with the Gospel Story. I pray for the African Christians to be willing to cross into other countries as missionaries. I pray for Christians around the world to travel to the African continent and be a missionary there. I pray for the Christian workers who are there to be safe, renewed and effective in the work that they do. I also pray for the continent to prosper and that wars and famines would cease.
I believe as I join with other people who are praying that God will do great and mighty things that we don’t even imagine in that great and vast continent. Paul said that prayer is a crucial part of Christian ministry.
It is easy to do. Just get a map of what countries you want to pray for and start doing it daily. Check off the countries as you go through them.
Also, I watch YouTube/videos about the country I am praying for so I can better acquaint myself with the country. You can find a current YouTube/video for just about any country you would like. Some are short and some more detailed.
Some people are discouraged because they feel they can’t do much for the Kingdom of God. But by spending a few minutes praying for countries around the world, you are doing great things and vitally involved in reaching the Next Generation for God.
